The Jian-bu-zhai chieftain Zheng Qing captured the rebellious bandit Yang Si and presented him [to the Court] together with a gold memorial, [elephant] tusks and bee’s-wax. [Yang] Si was a member of the fugitive bandit Lin Dao-qian’s gang. Previously, Geng Ding-xiang, the grand coordinator of Fu-jian, came to know through spies that [Lin] Dao-qian had left Siam. The Jian-bu-zhai chieftain was instructed to make plans to capture him. The chieftain, on reading the instructions, captured [Yang] Si. He also returned the former soldier Chen Ting-cai and others and requested permission to offer tribute to the Court. The officials of the ministry said: “We should wait until [Lin] Dao-qian is captured and only then discuss this request.” The Emperor approved this. read more
